Dahi Murg

Ingredients:

* 1 kg Chicken cut into medium-sized pieces
* 1 cup plain yoghurt
* 1 cup chopped onions
* 1 cups chopped tomatoes
* 2-3 sliced green chilies
* 1 tbsp chopped ginger
* 1 tbsp chopped garlic
* 1 tsp cumin seeds
* salt, to taste
* 1/2 tsp red chili powder
* 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
* 1/4 tsp cumin powder
* 1 tsp coriander powder
* 1/2 tsp garam masala
* 2 tbsp cooking oil

Method of preparation:

1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. When cumin seeds starts to sizzle, add onions and cook till they are slightly brown.
2. Add ginger, garlic and green chilies and fry for a few seconds.
3. Add chicken pieces and fry for 2-3 minutes.
4. In a separate bowl mix the chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, black pepper powder, salt and turmeric powder with the curd and mix well.
5. Add tomatoes and cook for about 15-20 minutes on low heat till chicken is tender.
6. Before finishing, sprinkle the garam masala.

  1. Sounds great! But just one doubt. Can one make Dahi Murg without dahi :). I will like to know whether dahi can be replaced by something, say milk cream in all these recipes. I don't like dahi and that rules out a lot of cooking for me.

  2. There are many other similar recipes, like chicken butter-masala which you can try.

    However, if yogurt is used in non-excessive quantity you will not even notice it. For example, in most of the kebab recipes yogurt is used for marination; but I never noticed this before, while eating it. Or maybe my taste-buds are already dead by IMSc hostel food.
